Hack Enables AirPlay Video Streaming From iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch To PC [Video]

Folks from Technical University of Serres have developed an application called AirMediaPlayer as a fun networking project that allows users to stream media content from their iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch to a Windows PC.

Erica Sadun from TUAW has already developed a application called AirPlayer that allows users to stream media content from iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to a Mac.

The latest version of iOS, iOS 4.2.1 brought the ability to stream and watch videos and other digital media content from any iDevice to a television. While this was without doubt one of the coolest offerings in the new iOS software update, the AirPlay functionality was limited to users who own the latest Apple TV. This meant that unless you own an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and the Apple TV 2G, you cannot enjoy this service.

AirPlayer for Mac and AirMediaPlayer for Windows remove this restriction and allow users to stream media content to their Mac or Windows computer. Just like AirPlayer, AirMediaPlayer does not require users to jailbreak their iDevice.

To stream media content to your Windows computer, you need to follow things:

• It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.
• You need to download and install the .NET framework runtimes and associated files (.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or later) for AirMediaPlayer to work. You can download it from Microsoft’s website.
• Bonjour for Windows (note it comes bundled with iTunes, so you don’t need it if iTunes is already installed else you can download Bonjour Print Services for Windows).
• iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 4.2.1.
• Download AirMediaPlayer (the developers seem to have pulled the link to the download, we have found this link or this one but please proceed with caution and at your own risk)

Once installed, you will be able to stream digital media content from your iDevice to your Windows PC.
